Selena Gomez started from her small screen roles and blossomed into a triple threat! She may only be 23 years old, but we bet there’s so much you don’t know about her. For that reason, we have decided to make her this week’s artist for #FUNFACTSFRIDAY!

Selena Marie Gomez was born and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992. Selena got her start in the entertainment industry with a two-year run on the kids’ show “Barney and Friends.” After a few bit parts in movies, Gomez guest-starred on Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “Hannah Montana.” In 2007, she was cast in the lead on “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Selena then transitioned to the music world when she formed her band Selena Gomez & The Scene after signing a recording contract with Hollywood Records in 2008. They released the studio albums Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010), and When the Sun Goes Down (2011) before going on hiatus in 2012.

After taking over the television and music world, Selena then entered the film industry with star billings in feature films including Ramona and Beezus (2010), Monte Carlo (2011), and Hotel Transylvania (2012). She embraced an increasingly mature public image with her star billing in the controversial film Spring Breakers (2013). That same year, Gomez co-starred with Ethan Hawke in the action thriller Getaway. She continued to pursue her musical career, releasing Stars Dance in 2013 and a greatest hits collection For You in 2014. Gomez also starred in the 2014 comedy Behaving Badly.

Most recently, she released her single “Good for You” in the summer of 2015. She has also contributed her voice to Hotel Transylvania 2, which is set to be released in fall.

1. Selena Gomez was named after Selena Quintanilla Pérez, the famous Tejano singer who died three years after she was born.

2. The first concert she ever attended was a Britney Spears show. She recalled, “I just remember it being the highlight of my life! I felt like I was on cloud nine!”

3. Selena made her television debut at age 7, on Barney and Friends, where she met her best friend, Demi Lovato.

4. Selena has admitted that she wasn’t a fan of magic nor the “Harry Potter” franchise. She said this before she got her big break in “The Wizards of Waverly Place.”

5. Before starring in her first lead role as Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s “The Wizards of Waverly Place,” Selena appeared on “Hannah Montana” with Miley Cyrus. She played Mikayla, Hannah’s pop star rival.

6. She has a major crush on Shia LaBeouf. Watch how sweet and nervous she got when she first met him.

7. Selena had her first kiss when she was 12 years old with Dylan Sprouse.

8. In 2009, Selena actually became the youngest UNICEF Ambassador in the history of the organization.
